Thomas Guy

Thomas Guy, President

Tom co-founded the agency in 2001 with Paul Hurley after a twenty-seven year career as a surety underwriter, underwriting manager and broker.  He has worked with construction companies of all sizes and types to arrange surety credit for them.  Tom is a past President of the Surety Association of Michigan and a director of the Construction Financial Management Association.  He presently serves on the Producer Advisory Board of a major national surety company and is an active committee member of the National Association of Surety Bond Producers.  Tom holds a B.S. degree from the University of Detroit.

Paul Hurley, Executive Vice President 

Paul co-founded the agency in 2001 after spending the first 13 years of his career with Liberty Bond Services.  His experience there includes managing the office in Michigan and starting up a new office in Illinois. Paul spent two years with a national broker beginning in 1999, then joined Tom Guy in forming the agency in 2001.  He has extensive knowledge of the construction industry, especially its financial components, which play a crucial role in producing and servicing contract surety business.  Paul holds a B.S./B.A. degree from Central Michigan University.

Roger Blaser

Roger Blaser, Executive Vice President 

Roger entered into a joint venture with Guy-Hurley Associates in mid-2001 and was instrumental in forming what would become GHBH.  He began his career as a property/casualty underwriter in 1972 and has accumulated 35 years of experience as an agent, broker, and agency manager, dealing with the technical property/casualty coverage and program design issues associated with large contractors.  Roger holds a B.G.S. degree from the University of Michigan and a Michigan Property/Casualty counselor's license.

Robert Heuer Robert Heuer, Vice President

Bob joined the agency in early 2002.  He brings considerable expertise in handling both insurance and surety bonds, including a 20-year stint producing and managing for a national broker's Michigan and California construction divisions.  He has handled large multi-state insurance and surety accounts, and currently sits on the regional agents' council for two national insurance carriers.  Bob has written and spoken before numerous industry groups including AGC, CFMA, MACPA and IRMI.  He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan.

Michael Lechner

Michael Lechner, Vice President

Mike joined the agency in 2005 following a 15-year surety company career, including ten years with Liberty Mutual Surety as Surety Manager.  Mike specializes in construction and has an extensive underwriting background.  During his  career he has arranged insurance and bonding for contractors of all sizes and construction specialties, from the small local family owned business to the large, national construction firm.  He is active in various associations including MITA, AGC, NASBP, MCA and WCA.  Mike holds a B.S. degree in Finance from Ferris State University, and did graduate studies at Walsh College of Business.  In January of 2009 he became an agency shareholder.

Richard McGregor


Richard McGregor, Vice President 

Rich joined GHBH as Vice President, shareholder, and manager of Property-Casualty Operations in early 2009 from CNA Insurance where he served as Vice President and Branch Manager of the Michigan Region.  Rich has also held various executive positions with both CNA and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies during his 23 year insurance career.  Rich holds a B.A. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Mark Madden

Mark Madden, Account Executive

Mark joined the agency in 2006 after spending 5 years with Safeco Surety (now Liberty Mutual Surety) as underwriter and territorial underwriting manager.  He has worked with client companies of all sizes, and brings to the agency valuable experience in financial analysis.  Since joining GHBH, Mark has added insurance as a core competency.   Mark is a past officer of the Surety Association of Illinois, and a committee chair for the Greater Detroit Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA).  Mark holds a B.S. degree from Northern Illinois University.

Paula joined GHBH in 2009 as Vice President of Claims. Paula brings 27years of legal representation and litigation experience, including 16 years as the Managing Trial Attorney for insurer CNA’s Michigan Staff Counsel Office.  In addition to utilizing her considerable expertise in litigated claims management for the benefit of GHBH clients, Paula has obtained her Producers License, and will be representing a variety of commercial lines and employee benefits clients.  She was a featured speaker on the topic of litigated claims at the 2009 Michigan Association of CPAs Select Conference in Novi, MI.  Paula holds a BA degree from the University of Michigan and JD from Wayne State University.
   
Leslie Loftus  
Leslie Loftus, Chief Operating Officer--Veritas Benefits Group
Leslie founded and manages GHBH’s employee benefits division, known as Veritas Benefits Group. She brings over 25 years of benefits experience to the job, including seven years as Vice President of Operations at a large insurance agency, 15 years as a Human Resource Generalist, and four years as Operations VP for a start up health plan. There she launched two commercial HMO products and managed six outpatient medical centers.   Leslie is an active speaker on a wide range of benefits industry topics and has authored a book, as well as various articles on benefits. She holds a Masters’ Degree from Central Michigan University and a B.S.B.A. from Lawrence Technological University.
